I am inevitably reminded of:

“For my birthday I got a humidifier and a de-humidifier… I put them in the same room and let them fight it out.” — Steven Wright

c) sounds like fun. As for a) - human computation is in these days. Just let people do the solving. :)

One a more serious note - we need to get all the LazyWeb requests together so that people looking for things to do are presented with a choice of interesting things they may take on.

A Lazy answer: There are plenty of web sites that generate and solve sudoku. A quick search revealed http://show.websudoku.com/? for the sudoku generation and http://www.jarek.cz/en/logical-puzzles/sudoku/automatic-solver/ for a solver. Both are using html forms for the sudoku matrix and it’s relatively easy with some html scraping, xpath, and so on to wrap these web pages as web services (either REST or SOAP :-D )

Of course I am assuming that the licenses of the corresponding web pages permit such mashups, which I believe is not the case :-D

Cheers
Stelios

Anything in particular you want to do with this? One of my close friends put together http://www.sudokuslam.com/ . It’s got a sophisticated solver and generator (but neither is exposed as a service, I think).
